SLO CINEMA/FILM

Here is the SLO we will be working on.
Summarize and differentiate between the interrelationships of various artistic and cultural periods throughout civilization. ( SLO A)
*Investigate the nature of human creativity and determine how its subsequent expression in various art forms informs us about human nature. (SLO B)
SINCE film wasn’t around before the late 1800’s, this will be a short 140 year survey compared to Architecture!
PART 1
Interact with the PP lecture. Fulfill the prompts on Slides 7, 8, 9. It will entail some of your own research.
Keep the list of terms with you for when you do SLO practice.
PART 2
Watch this short video (it’s just a sample) about Edison, the father of the motion picture.
Watch portions of this 1915 Film:
After you watch the 1915 film, BIRTH OF A NATION, read this article from NYTimes.
PLUG into the SLO: What does this film and its commentary (NYT article) say about human nature? (SLO B)
PART 3
Choose a movie from each era. Find controversial, iconic films that have stood the test of time. It will make your research more interesting and easier to use films with criticisms available. Watch a 10-20 minutes of each movie of your choice, research the subject matter, themes and style/genre, and 3 devices for each movie. This will take at least 4 hours of your time.

These questions will help you:
What are the interrelationships between these eras?
Are they concerned with the same issues?
What does film tell you about our species?
