Small Group Discussion

Review the website for the organization in aging to which you have been assigned. (See M2-M7 Small Groups to identify which organization you have been assigned to and to access links to key pages of this organization’s website for the purposes of this course.) As you begin to get to know this organization through its website, please sign up to receive email alerts from the organization, such as emails about new blog updates or e-newsletters.
Navigate to the “about” section of the organization’s website. (If no “about” section is available, explore the main links from the organization’s homepage.)
Then, answer the following questions in your post:
1. Briefly summarize the organization’s focus for the benefit of your classmates. How would you describe their overarching mission? Who is the organization intended to serve (e.g., older consumers, professionals, members of the general public, policymakers)? What are the main ways that the organization advocates for change in the field of aging (e.g., continuing education, conferences, resource directories, legislative advocacy)? Also report on whether or not you were able to sign up for their email blasts.
2. Reflect on the messaging about aging on the organization’s website in light of what you learned from viewing the reframing aging webinar. How is the organization framing aging? Can you find an example of the values they are leading with? Do you see any use of metaphors? Can you find any evidence from the site of a proposed solution that demonstrates one of the “c” criteria, as explained in the webinar?
In your post, feel free to use hyperlinks to link to specific parts of the organization’s website. You should not need to use outside sources to adequately respond to this post (other than the webinar), but if you choose to incorporate any additional resources, make sure to cite them properly through APA style.
