500 –800 Words of body content – Show Word Count
Body Content refers to what you actually present, AFTER the cover page and BEFORE
the reference page. The minimum 500 word count excludes cover and reference pages. Adhere to this, so you
do not submit an incomplete paper. Try to present at least 600 words overall, so you are sure to have 500 words of content.
I. Choose ONE of the following topics:
Isolation and mental health;
Nutrition and the link to chronic illness;
Social media use and anxiety
Olympics — pressure to perform and mental health
Stress and the related diseases.
II. Research the topic using keywords, as you search the academic databases from the Eastern Florida State College Library — https://libguides.easternflorida.edu/az.php (Links to an external site.)

Once on the library site, click on “Databases A-Z.” The best databases for these papers are going to be: PsycArticles; Academic Search Complete; any health, education, or medically related database, depending on the topic you have selected. Select as many databases that you feel you need. Using 2 to 3 databases will provide better results.
You must use a “Scholarly, Peer-reviewed journal article” within your database search, published within the past 10 years. Do not use old articles. There are thousands of articles written within the past 5 to 10 years that will support your topic.
[On the search page, move down to the advanced section to select “scholarly peer-reviewed,” and you will need to input the search dates “From” 2011 and “to” 2021.
Stress and related diseases;
Use approved sources. One reference must be an article from the database. You may use substantiated websites (.edu, .gov,) or e-books from the library as your second source. You may use your textbook as a third source. You may NOT use .com websites.
At least TWO required, approved sources/references must be regularly utilized in the paper. One must come from the database. The other may be from a university (.edu) or governmental (.gov) site. You may use a book from a library as a second source. You may use your textbook as a third source.
III. Format and begin your paper
Format an APA Cover/Title Page for your paper (visit the Purdue Owl APA website to view a sample student paper and Title page)
Develop the essay describing and highlighting your topic and the research article(s).
When citing your research, always try to paraphrase what you have read (place information in your own words) and CITE the source that the information came from. Cite often to prevent plagiarism. Plagiarism (taking someone else’s words and claiming them as your own) will result in a zero grade and a visit to the Associate Provost’s office. PLEASE do your own work, paraphrase, and CITE liberally thorugh the paper. If you did not think it, CITE it.
Examples of an in-text citation, presented within the body of the paper:

[EX:] The text tells us that psychology studies the connection between our behavior and mental processes (Speilman, et al., 2020).
Mr. Rogers’ television show used to begin with the song, “Who are the people in your neighborhood?” (Myers, et al., 2014, p.32).

Some ideas to consider for your essay:
What are the main details surrounding your topic? What are you trying to present? Follow an organized pattern of presenting information from start to finish. Stay on task.
Present a very Strong Introduction & Thesis Statement in the initial paragraph. The paragraphs that follow should support your thesis statement.
Describe the journal article research you found in support of your topic. (Cite the source)
Do the results of the research study illuminate or add insight to your own topic? How so? (Continue to cite source any time you use a statement from your article, book, or website).
Conclusion: write a concluding paragraph that summarizes the topic you’ve selected and your closing thoughts.
Show Word Count on Final Page (500 minimum – of content, excluding cover page and references) READ this part AGAIN.
Create a Reference Page using the proper APA format for the references. Points will be deducted if the APA format is not used. Do not use MLA format, and do not copy a web address as a reference, as this is not proper formatting.
