Sociological Approaches to the Self

You will choose one of the three theories discussed in the section entitled “Sociological Approaches to the Self” from chapter 4. You can use Cooley’s “looking glass self,” Mead’s “stages of self,” or Goffman’s “impression management.” Choose a quotation from the above section in Schaefer’s textbook that explains the theory you chose. Toose a quotation from the above section in Schaefer’s textbook that explains the theory you chose. Then, in your own words, explain how you think that theory works. Finally, relate a specific experience from your childhood that can be used as an example of the theory you chose. The quotation must be followed with a parenthetical reference. The full reference, properly formatted, is needed after the body of the assignment using either APA or MLA citation style. When you submit the assignment on Blackboard, you must click the box after “plagiarism tools.” Please do not submit your assignment in the “comments” box. The minimum length for this assignment is two paragraphs.

Please read chapter 4 “Socialization and the Life Course.” The first writing assignment is connected to this chapter. Please make sure to read the instructions for the writing assignment carefully. There is also a video in this chapter folder where I explain it. Make sure you are properly formatting your quotation as well as the full reference at the end. The quotation needs to be enclosed in quotation marks and followed with a parenthetical reference. A parenthetical reference looks like (Author’s last name, page number if available, publication date). The full reference for our text can be formatted using either APA or MLA citation style. Below is the full reference for the 14th edition in both.
