Topic 3: Mini-Case

I
believe that the agile methodology would be the most effective for approaching
this case. The case is looking to advise students in preparing, landing and
completing the relevant experience in the form of internships and other applied
learning scenarios so that they can effectively compete for positions
post-graduation. Because all students are different and have different
situations, interests, and experience, the agile methodology would be perfect
for this case as it can be adjusted for each student.
The first step I would take to develop this is to create a system
architecture for the project. The architecture would need to lay the foundation
so that the system can break down each student’s details in one phase then find
internships, positions, and resources to help the student in another phase.
Agile methodology relies on an iterative and phase-based approach, which is why
I believe it would work perfectly for this case.

The methodology that I would choose to do is Feature-Driven
Development. Feature-Driven Development is an agile framework that revolves
around the features of the software or system. This methodology is scalable and
delivers predictable results. Feature-Driven Development also drives status
reporting for all levels, therefore keeping track of results and progress. The
continuous updates help determine and issues or errors in which will help
resolve them quickly. Also, this development provides clients with details and
significant results at any given time. Lastly, this methodology is between
development teams to help combat any confusion and rework. This is the process
of the Feature-Driven Development
1). Develop an overall model.
2). Create a feature list.
3). Plan by the features.
4). Design by the features.
5). Building the features.
In this case, there are different features from creating a
repository, having web-based application, creating more opportunities for
faculty and students in a broad range of educational disciplines (currently
only 3), and creating a prototype of query tool for use in demo and selling
project on campus and much more.

The first step I would take with the recommended methodology above is to gather
all the elements that need to be used to create the overall model. Plan a
development meeting to discuss what teams and members will be concentrating on
based on the features that are being requested in the project.

Discussion Topic 3

Refer to the mini-case that is ATTACHED and answer the following questions.
There is no correct response.
You will be graded on how you present your case for your recommendations.

Keep your response to under 200
words.

1. What methodology would you recommend be used to approach this case? Why?
2. Given that you’ve recommended a methodology in #1, what would be the first steps you would recommend?

Response:

Question One
1. What methodology would you recommend be used to approach this case? Why?
The
preferred methodology for approaching the case comprises the lean
methodology. Lean software development is an agile framework designed to
optimize development time and resources and eliminate waste. The
approach operates by ensuring the team focuses on releasing an app to
the market which meets the users’ minimum requirements hence its
appropriateness. The team directly learns from users what they like and
do not like and identifies the features that should be added to enhance
the product’s effectiveness. The appropriateness of the approach also
lies in the fact that development is mainly based on the user’s
feedback. The users of the product, in this case, comprise the students
seeking internships and permanent job opportunities.
Question Two
2. Given that you’ve recommended a methodology in #1, what would be the first steps you would recommend?
The
first step encompasses proving the need by identifying the pain points
that the target audience experiences that require remedy. The next step
involves mapping the pain points to solutions and getting feedback. The
step will involve brainstorming to solve the identified pain points and
evaluate each possible solution to timeline, cost, etc. The third step
entails prototyping the solution and testing for additional feedback.
The next step involves creating a minimum viable product that is fully
functional.
