Standardized Testing

This essay will require that you take a position on an issue or controversial topic in your chosen field of study or future career. You will need to thoroughly research the topic, form a strong thesis statement, and use the Toulmin System to adequately support your position. For this assignment, you must follow the Toulmin System when organizing your paper.

Claim: Standardized testing should not be mandatory in schools.
Stated Reason: Standardized testing in schools should not be mandatory because it is not the most efficient method of student evaluation.
Grounds: Some students are poor test takers, it does not cater to differing student needs very well.
Warrant: Parents see their children under more stress when it is time for standardized testing.
Backing: If a student has a slight disability or other factor that might hinder their performance, they are still assessed along the same guidelines and standards as everyone else.
Rebuttal: Standardized testing gives feedback to schools and the government by giving an idea of where the students need help in.
Qualifier: In all likelihood, standardized testing should not be made mandatory in schools because it creates tension and stress in students.
