Re-read the IMA’s Statement of Ethical Professional Practice and discuss the following issues:
1. Why is competence listed as the first standard? How does competence relate to ethical behavior? Can you think of a situation in your own experience where competence figured prominently as an ethical issue?
2. Why does the Integrity standard advise members to “mitigate actual conflicts of interest” and at the same time to “avoid apparent conflicts of interest”. Why do they make this distinction between how to address actual vs. apparent conflicts? Can you give an example that helps to clarify this distinction?
