Consumers consider more factors than just quality goods and services when choosing a brand. Many are prioritizing corporate social responsibility (CSR), and holding corporations accountable for effecting social change with their business beliefs, practices, and profits. In fact, some consumers will even turn their back on their favorite companies if they believe that they are not taking a stand for societal and environmental issues.
Business leaders need to understand how CSR can impact an organization’s strategies and competitive position.

PEER 1 RESPONSE

Victoria Young :
The company I selected is Samsung which has used CSR (India) as a competitive strategy to “ensure that interventions are need-based, community-oriented, sustainable and impact headline human development indicators favorably, while simultaneously being aligned with its core competencies as a leading global technology and innovations company” (Samsung).

Describe two factors that might put this company at risk by implementing this strategy.
One risk would be if the in-kind program contributions are for a company that does not have the same agenda regarding the environment and if the program does not fulfill its intended use.

Propose what the company might have done to counter these risks if these factors had actually been present.
If these factors had actually been present Samsung would cut ties with the company and engage a company whose environmental impact has been running for years and in line with Samsung policy. Also, they would ensure the program fulfilled its intended use by reviewing each policy before, during and after implementation of the policy.

Describe the role of business policy in this scenario as a part of your discussion.
The role of business policy in this scenario is to ensure the policy is very specific and provides the day-to-day guide for implementing the strategic policy.
