Term Paper General Instruction and Guide

As part of this course, you will conduct literature review and write a term paper in the area of public health. You will follow an APA format in completing the assignment. The components of an APA format paper include:
Cover page
Abstract
Introduction
Methods
Results
Discussion/Conclusion
References

The components of the term paper must be organized and presented in a written report meeting the following stipulations:
A typed word document in no less than 5 pages (excluding cover and reference pages)

Double spaced, “Times New Roman” font with font size 12.

Title page is the first page of an APA-format paper. It includes the manuscript page header, the running head, the manuscript’s title in 12 words or less, and the name(s) of the author(s) and their affiliation(s).

Must include a one page abstract summarizing the content of the work done and should include the following sections:
Background/introduction
Methods
Results/findings
Discussions
Conclusions

The abstract should be followed by background/introduction where you conduct literature review based on your topic and write the findings.
For the literature review, you will review as much literature related to your research questions. For example, let us say that you wanted to research the effectiveness of post-surgery procedure like radiation and chemotherapy. You would begin by identifying some key words like radiation, chemotherapy, post-surgery. You would then identify the search engines that you will be using e.g. Google, Google Scholar, PubMed, EbscHost, etc. Once you put in these key words you may get several hundred articles all of which will not be directly related to your research topic. You must now go through as many of these as possible and find the ones that are relevant and related to your research topic. In doing, this refinement you will narrow these several hundred articles to about 8 to 10. The final revised literature will be the source of your background, discussion and conclusion sections. That is, after reading and understanding what these 8-10 literature/articles have to say on the matter you will in turn make your own conclusion on the effectiveness of radiation and chemotherapy as post-operative procedures.

The method and result sections follow after background/introduction. The objective of the method section is to provide sufficient detail about your experiment to enable readers to evaluate its appropriateness or replicate your study should they desire. The result section contains information about the statistical findings from the experiment. It is your job in the results section to decode the meaning of your numbers into words for the reader. At the same time you must provide the factual, numerical basis to back your decoding.

Discussion: Follow up with your own discussion and personal views, experience, opinions, dislikes, and complains, hopes and dreams, future directions regarding prevention, diagnosis, control and treatment.
Conclusion: Finally close with your own conclusion.
Document must include all references and all cited sources used to compile the report and presentation.
No less than 10 peer-reviewed and or authentic agencies and sources will be accepted.

Literature Review
A drug overdose is when an individual has consumed a great amount of a substance whether it is legal, illegal, over the counter or prescription. Drug overdoses in America have worsened over the past ten years. Through various data sources such as the emergency department, admission data, billing, and discharge files, has made it easier to track nonfatal overdoses.
There has been a tremendous growth in the number of deaths from synthetic opioids due to the illegal production and distribution. Stimulants like cocaine and methamphetamine have also been involved in the many recent fatal overdoses. Drug overdoses and fatalities have sky rocketed in all ages including young children, all genders, all races, all ethnicities, in every urban level. During the Covid-19 pandemic, drug overdose visits to the emergency room increased during 2020, in comparison to the year before. Like the rest of the world, America was forced to quarantine and shut down. Many Americans endured economic stress and mental health problems during quarantine which is why it is believed that there was a surge in drug overdoses that year.
Drug overdose fatalities have put a dent in the economy financially. During the year 2017, it has been estimated that one point two trillion dollars were used to cover drug overdoses. It is important to prioritize the drug overdose issue in America so fatalities and financial costs can be lowered. In the year 2016, Nurse practitioners and Physician assistants have been approved to prescribe Buprenorphine. The drug Buprenorphine is used to help those with addiction deal with withdrawals. Nurse practitioners and Physician assistants were responsible for seventy-nine-point six percent increase in the distribution of this drug.

I am choosing to write about substance abuse in America for my final paper topic. Substance abuse can occur in any home in the United States. Substance abuse can occur with prescription medicine, drugs, and alcohol. All of these substances can be easily attained by anyone, which is why substance abuse can easily occur. This kind of abuse can occur for many different reasons like peer pressure, stress, anxiety, depression, and many other reasons.
Substance abuse does not only affect individuals, but also the friends and family of the individual. Individuals who misuse substances may end up with health problems, die, or even hurt others. Substance abuse is an important topic for Public Health because the Addiction Center has stated about twenty-one million Americans have at least one kind of addiction. That is a large population who is being affected that can potentially grow higher. Creating awareness on the topic will allow others to easily identify a case of substance abuse and help bring it to an end. The more awareness created within America will help tackle the problem as a whole.
