Your first essay assignment is to take a position as to whether you agree or disagree with Bryan Caplan in his article, “The World Might Be Better Off without College for Everyone.” In addition to referring to Caplan’s article and citing it appropriately, you will need to also use at least two additional outside sources as support. In this assignment, you are asked to compose an essay in which you take a position on the issue and provide “expert witnesses” within your essay to provide evidence for your readers that your position is the correct one to take on the issue. You must use a minimum of 3 sources (the Caplan article counts as one of them). Within your paper, you need to be sure to define the controversy which you are addressing, provide background information on your subject for your readers, and take a clear, well thought out position concerning your topic. Also, you will need to acknowledge opposing views and refute them for your readers. Remember, it is important to maintain an appropriate tone always which will help you gain your readers’ confidence and respect.
