For this assignment, you will calculate the Mean Length of Utterance (MLU) for a portion of a language of a 4-yr-old child, and you will identify which stage of language development she is in. Follow the directions below and utilize the rubric to guide your work.

Directions:
1. Watch the MLU Overview
2. Watch the video of the MLU Explanation with Examples ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LqxcyltG0c ) and follow along with the Exemplars (Please Download Exemplars and fill in). This will walk you through the process of calculating MLU.
3. Calculate the MLU for the transcript of the 4 yr-old ( Please Download transcript of the 4 yr-old file and fill in) This transcript has 100 utterances, however you only use the first 10 utterances for this assignment.
4. Look at Brown’s Stages of Language Development ( PleaseDownload Brown’s Stages of Language Development) and determine which stage this 4-yr-old is in according to the MLU you calculated.
5. Look at Brown’s Stages of Language Development and identify 2 morphological structures from the transcript that are expected for her age. You can use all 100 utterances for this task.
6. Provide 2-4 sentences describing your experience with this assignment.
