Part II. Brief Systematic Review of the RP (100 points). A Systematic-Review answers a defined research question by collecting and summarizing empirical evidence that fits pre-specified eligibility criteria. Your final paper will be a systematic review of the RP articles you used to develop the annotated bibliography. Your paper should be 3-5 pages long with additional page(s) for references. The following components should be included in your review.
Step 1: Develop an overview of the topic.
From the articles you summarized, you will now synthesize the information. As you synthesize the information be sure to include how the information is framed by the DEC RPs. Frame your research questions/thesis based on the DEC RPs you used in your review.
For example:
What type of programs enhance the specific DEC RPs you used for your review?
Of the program and services that target (family centered practices, family capacity building, family and professional collaboration) which have empirical evidence regarding their level of effectiveness?
What core components of (family centered practices, family capacity building, family and professional collaboration) have been identified in the literature?
Step 2: Describe your research strategy and results:
For example, studies were located using the following search terms (add what search terms you used to locate the article you found). Then list the search engines or databases you used to locate your articles (examples: PsychInfo, ERIC, MEDLINE, Education Research Complete, Academic Search Premiere, Google Scholar). Provide inclusion criteria you used, (ex. Articles that addressed family centered practices, family capacity building, and or family and professional collaboration).
Step 3: Process:
Describe your results:
Three studies were reviewed that met the inclusion criteria.
The studies included X-number of families, X –number of professionals, X- number of reviewed articles (if meta-analysis).
In the review, X studies used qualitative methods or x studies used quantitative methods.
Step 4. Describe the findings:
Provide a synthesis of the findings, describe to what degree of completion the topic has been addressed. Are there still gaps remaining?
Family-centered practices:
Family capacity building practices
Family and professional collaboration
Step 5. Provide Recommendations based on the synthesis of the findings.
Provide recommendations for practice and policy-making, if sufficient high quality evidence exists, or discuss what else should be addressed in future research on this topic (eg. what additional questions should be ask, what additional populations should be studied to fill the existing gaps in knowledge?).
