After reading the two accounts of the career and death of Julius Caesar, were Caesar’s assassins justified in killing him to remove a tyrant and save the republic, or did they kill a man who was reforming the republic in order to save it? Be sure to give ample evidence from Plutarch’s and Suetonius’ texts to support your assertions.

It is not necessary to do further research, but should you desire, feel free to explore the resources of the library and the internet. Be certain if you use information and/or ideas from written sources or your classmates you give them due credit.
As you think about these sources and the questions, begin to develop an essay that expresses your views. Organize your ideas into a coherent analysis with an introduction and conclusion. Each paragraph should lead smoothly and logically into the next, without digressions. Provide specific examples from the sources to support your points. Use quotations sparingly. Avoid passive verbs, and keep the prose clear and concise. Effective writing takes patience and practice. Expect to work through several drafts.
