Memorandum
To: ENGL 221 Class
From: Micaiah Babbs
Subject: Module 5 – Memo: Selecting a Tool or Technology
Date: November 20, 2021
My Tool of Choice
I chose a tool that is widely used by engineers, mathematicians and scientists and this tool is used to construct, design and program systems and products. This platform is called ‘MATLAB’. MATLAB helps with numeric computing and programming platform used to create models, develop algorithms and analyze data.
Hypothetical Organization
My hypothetical organization would be called ‘National Engineer and Scientist Aerospace Data Alliance’ or NESADA.
NESADA Mission Statement
NESADA mission is “to accelerate and drive ingenuity, innovation and exploration to enhance knowledge in all aspects of aerospace technology and education through constant improvement and evolution”. This alliance is driven and dedicated to discovering, collecting and refining data to better the use of aerospace technology such as improving the dynamics of aircraft and space vehicles and human development in space. This data will be widely used in aid of building and crafting technology and making better advancements. Each department in this alliance plays a special role to contribute to the common causes for innovation.
Each (Aerospace, Design, Mechanical, Electrical, and Product) engineer contributes their research, test results, product designs, and findings to Data Scientists and Analysts who in turn analyze and refine this data. This entire process is done through MATLAB as this platform offers every tool an engineer and scientist might need to perform these actions. The data is applied to experimental and finalized technologies to help improve the final outcomes. This data is widely distributed to organizations such as NASA, SpaceX, Boeing, and Lockheed Martin to aid in their creations.
Basically, I have to create a report based on this.
The Technical Report should:
Utilize Tebeaux and Dragga’s “Formal Report” format. (This part is very important)
Cite at least six (6) sources using proper APA formatting.
Provide a clear and strong recommendation for or against the use of the tool or technology.
Be at least 1,500 words.
Here is the more detailed rubric:
Final Recommendation
Does the report offer a clearly articulated recommendation for or against the application of the reviewed technology?
10 pts
Focus
How clearly articulated is the report’s central thesis/topic? How well does the report adhere to that central thesis/topic? How well are the report’s central claims and ideas articulated? How cogent is the report’s analysis of relevant subject and concepts?
20 pts
Evidence
How well does the report utilize supporting details; synthesize primary and/or secondary sources and evidence; apply relevant personal experience and anecdotes; and distinguish between writer’s ideas and sources?
20 pts
Organization
How well does the report use effective headings, appropriately, an engaging introduction; relevant topic sentences; effective transitions; and demonstrate a logical flow of ideas?
20 pts
Mechanics and Style
Is the report free of grammar and mechanics errors? Does the report use appropriate syntax, diction, word choice, and vocabulary?
10 pts
Formatting
How well does the report adhere to Tebeaux and Dragga’s “Formal Report” formatting? Are APA formatting and citation standa rds applied where appropriate? 20 pts
