The word that played a lead role in my life is “Cancer”. It pretty much changed the course of my life. I dropped out of high school in 2002. Completed my GED in 2008 after my mother died after a 12 year battle with cancer, because I had to get a real job to continue supporting my younger brother and keep our apartment. I served as my mother’s main caregiver since the age of 14 as she was not fluent in English and needed me to translate during her Doctor appointments. Ever since then, I wanted to be a part of the Medical Field. In 2009, I started as the front desk at a Chiropractic office. Since then, we have become an intergrated medical facility and my role is now as a Medical Assistant/Patient Care/Coordinator/Phlebomotist. In 2021 I began my latest journey in enrolling in BMCC to obtain my AAS in Nursing. My 5 year plan once I graduate is to enroll to SUNY Downstate to obtain my Bachelors in Nursing, then my Masters or Doctorate, the finally a certification as a Nurse Practitioner. While losing my mother 14 years ago was the hardest thing I have ever had to endure, her passing put me on this parh to help other people.
