The age of criminal responsibility

Purpose: Learning objectives 1, 2 and 4 are being developed and assessed here.

Due: 11.55 pm Friday 24 March 2023

Value: 15%

Word count: 800 words

Instructions: For this assessment task, students must complete an annotated bibliography, related to the topic and project brief that they will be presenting on with their group. This is an individual task but the references can help inform the group presentation. The annotated bibliography should have eight references including 6 scholarly sources.

An annotated bibliography is an alphabetical list of information sources (e.g. journal articles or book chapters), formatted like a bibliography or a reference list, accompanied by a commentary on each source (which is called an annotation). An annotated bibliography is made up of two parts: a reference and an annotation.

The reference: The reference will present the details of your source (for example, a book or journal article) in accordance with the Harvard 2020 referencing style. The references should be arranged in alphabetical order by the authors’ surnames, just like in a bibliography or reference list. In Criminology, we use Harvard referencing style. For information about Harvard referencing style, please see the library guide:

https://guides.lib.monash.edu/citing-referencing/harvard

The annotation: For the annotation, you need to:

Produce a summary of the reference. This means you need to write a brief summary of the information and arguments contained in the reference.
Justify the selection of the reference. This means you need to explain why the reference is a credible source of information on the topic under investigation. You should refer to the criteria discussed in the week 3 tutorials.

Submission requirements:

Use 12-point size Arial, Calibri or Times New Roman font
Use 1.5 line spacing
Insert page numbers
Include at least 8 reference sources. At least 6 of the sources must be scholarly sources.
Use Harvard 2020 referencing style
List all references in alphabetical order
Please note that the 800 word count does not include the reference
The annotated bibliography should be submitted as a Word document
