Since the Bill of Rights (First Ten Amendments) was added to the U. S. Constitution in 1791, only 17 amendments/changes have been made. This is testament to the fact that while the founding fathers provided a mechanism to make changes to the document, the process of altering the constitution is uneasy and sometimes very time consuming. As a result, we have such relatively few alterations.
Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Would it be better for the country if the requirements to make amendments were less stringent… or is it, in fact, a good thing that the standard is set so high?
