Need to write an essay about why there are some Christian sacrifice their kids and do Christian believe that Jesus is God’s son and why and how?
I am going to be attaching my abstract for essay 1 that passed already and essay 2 which what we are going to be writing about today.
I also need 5 recourses that can’t be a website, it needs to be a book or a journal article or documentation.
Below will be the instructions that professor gave to us. Thanks, and reach out if you need more info.
a. The research paper is designed to give you first-hand knowledge of a religious system with which you have not previously been familiar. Ideally, you will look at an aspect of a primal religion, but it is also possible to look at certain aspects of world religions (talk to me if you want to take the latter route). It is also designed to give you an opportunity to look at the adaptive role of religious beliefs and practices in particular societies and under particular circumstances. Last, a research paper gives you one more chance to practice basic research skills and to test your skills in what will be, for many of you, a new subject area.
b. Choose a religion that intrigues you, read about it, and select one or two aspects of it on which to research. You will then research that topic within the context of the society in which it is found. Start by writing an abstract of the paper you are planning to write that will describe what you will be writing about and why it is important. Include what culture, ethnicity, religion, time period, place, and specific aspects of the religion you will cover. You will find abstracts accompanying many of the papers you will be using as sources of your data, so you will have a chance to see how long they are and what functions they perform. You will type the abstract in a short single-spaced paragraph (100 words), titled, to be handed in as “Research 1” (25 points). (For a sample, see an article abstract written for the American Anthropologist Journal). Included on this page, you must list at least 3 of the 5 minimum sources required for this paper, which you plan to use, in proper reference style according to the syllabus. This is DUE MON 3/20/23, IN CLASS. Note NO web-only sources are to be used for this paper, and this is a formal paper, so use no first person singular nor plural and no you, your, etc., instead use third person only (a person, one, this writer, this researcher).
Next, start writing the paper itself. The paper will have an introduction which gives all the topics to be covered and the order of topic presentation all the way through emic and etic analysis and conclusion, and mention the types of sources to be used for emic vs. etic analysis. The introduction is similar to the abstract, but should not use the same exact wording, and will include additional information. It should include general information on what the paper will cover, specify the time period, country, and the culture/ethnicity in which the religion will be covered, the religion and specific focal points within the religion and specify the order in which the different types of data you will discuss will be presented (i.e., descriptions of time period, country, culture, ethnicity, overview of religion chosen, description of specific aspect of religion that is your focus, etic and emic analysis of significance of aspect(s) of religion studied and religion to society, concluding remarks). List what types (not titles) of sources will support Emic vs. Etic Analysis sections in your introduction, even though you will not yet write those sections yet as part of Research 2.
c. For the body of the paper, it is required that you use topical headings for the different sections of your paper for clarity and to help your organization of it.
Description sections must include the following, each in its own labeled section: Give a description of what was going on during the time period you chose to cover that might affect the religion you are examining. Next give a description of the country you chose to cover in terms of geography, location and neighbors, main economy. Next give a description of the dominant culture you are examining in terms of main cultural values, lifestyle, marriage patterns, governing system and/or anything that might affect the practice of the religion. In this section mention what the dominant religions practiced are and population percentages for each. Next, if you are describing a multi-ethnic culture, now describe the ethnic group you have chosen to focus on, again in terms of main cultural values, lifestyle, marriage patterns, and anything that might affect how the religion is practiced. Next give an overview on the religion you have chosen. Next, give a description of the particular religious behaviors on which you will focus. That concludes Research 2, which is 7 pages long, plus abstract, cover page and reference page. When you do Research 3, you will add 3 additional sections: an emic analysis of that behavior, an etic analysis of that behavior, and a conclusion.
d. The Introduction and all the Description Sections will, together, make up “Research 2” (75 points) and will be typed, double-spaced, and handed in next, along with a reference page. Please use American Anthropologist style for in-text citations and the Reference Page (For a sample, see the examples given below). Please remember that data or ideas you use that are not thought up by you (even if paraphrased rather than directly quoted) MUST HAVE A CREDIBLE SOURCE (a source recognized by anthropologists) which must be CITED in the text. No source should appear in your reference page that has not been actually cited in the paper. You will include citations for all the information about the culture and its religion that you use, so that interested readers may check your sources. Do not panic if your paper topic turns out to deviate a bit from what you planned in your abstract; this is fairly common, and it is why you will rewrite your abstract for the final draft, Research 3.
R2 is DUE IN CLASS on Wed 4/19/23. Research 2 must be 7 pages long, plus a reference page and cover page, and must include the required elements mentioned above, or points will be docked. It will be edited, graded and given back to you to rewrite, along with adding on the analysis and conclusion sections as part of Research 3.
e. Next, start working on the last 3 sections of your paper, the Emic analysis section and Etic analysis section of your data, as well as the conclusion section, which might discuss differences found in emic vs. etic perspectives. The analysis must be based in a cultural relativist stance so that it presents neither a justification nor condemnation of the beliefs and behaviors under discussion. A review of functions and dysfunctions of a behavior for practitioners to adapt to the larger society is often a good starting point for your analysis. Why people do what they do and what it all means is also discussed here, including the meaning behind any symbols/symbolic actions earlier described. Note that you must have published sources for each type of analysis; this information does not depend on your opinion.
f. You will be required to revise the abstract (Research 1), introduction, and description sections (Research 2) and hand those revisions back in as part of the final version, along with the emic and etic analysis, conclusion, and reference page. You will also hand back in your original Research 1 and 2 (with my comments on them) at this time, so I can compare and see that you made the requested revisions. You will lose 5 points each for each missing item if you do not follow these instructions. That final version made up of all the parts will constitute “Research 3” (100 points) and be 10 pages long. The conclusion should summarize the topics covered in the paper and state how this religion and religious aspect that was the main focus helps people adapt to their society.
g. Please use American Anthropologist style (Examples given below). If you collect information from informants, known as primary data, tell me who they are. Journals, newspapers and magazines, and similar recognized reference sources are acceptable. Web sites do NOT constitute credible sources for this paper, although they may refer you to sources that would be acceptable. They may be sources of data under some circumstances, but because their reliability cannot be checked, they may not be used as sources for any solid evidence or analysis. You need a minimum of 5 acceptable sources or point will be docked
