Assignment: In class, we read and discussed two works that examine the relationship of how food is grown with the eating habits of consumers. Pollan draws a parallel between the overconsumption of alcohol and the overconsumption of food, while The Guardian looks at food and eating from a community perspective. Drawing from either or both of the assigned sources, write an essay where you take a position that answers the following question:

To what extent is food access a community issue?

Suggestion: Think about your own community. Is there a community garden? A farmer’s market? How many supermarkets are within walking distance? How many health food stores? How many fast food restaurants? How many stores sell reasonably priced fresh fruits and vegetables?
