Unit Report 1
To do this unit report, you will first need to read/watch the materials for this unit. You will also need to do the experiential exercise for the unit. For this unit, you will need to identify an experience in your life that you think serves as an example of alienation (i.e., think of a time when you felt alienated and write about that experience). To do this, you will want to apply one or some of the ideas (e.g., theories) in this week’s material to events that have occurred in your life. That is, you will be demonstrating that you understand the idea(s) well enough to relate it/them to your life.
Due: August 20 (in CourseDen Under assessments, under assignments)
Length: 2-4 pages (12pt. font, double spaced)
Content: Report should consist of the following sections:
Summary and evaluation of the resources (1 substantial paragraph). Here, you will articulate the most important lessons that you learned from the resources you read/watched during the unit (Cauvin; Dodson; Fromm; Head) and explain why these lessons matter.
Description of an alienation memory (1 paragraph). Here, you will give your account of a time in your life when you experienced some form of alienation (i.e., the memory should relate to at least one of the types of alienation presented in this unit’s course material).
Reflection on an alienation memory (1 paragraph). Here, you will reflect on the alienation memory that you described in the previous section. That is, you will discuss what you thought and felt while going through the experience you described and discuss the thoughts and feelings you have had about the experience since it occurred.
Scholarly analysis (1 substantial paragraph). Here you will use information gained in the course (e.g., theories, concepts, terminology) to analyze the alienation memory you described in section 2. In so doing, you will demonstrate an applied understanding of the scholarly resources – showing that you comprehend the scholarly ideas well enough to relate them to your experience of the exercise. That is, you will analyze the alienation memory through at least one of the theoretical lenses provided in the resources. In so doing, you will include citations of the sources you use.
