The Pearl, John Steinbeck
The Pearl is meant to teach us something. State your position on what you think is the biggest problem, and then use the rest of the essay to prove that position. You can use the music as a way to support your position, or individual characters and their actions, or you can focus on Kino. Whatever you like. You can look at the obvious influence of greed, but don’t feel limited by that. Men are horrible in the book and the colonial oppression can’t be ignored. Maybe the book is intended to teach us never to have kids? (joke)
