The purpose of the Community Policing Research Paper is to apply the concepts of problem-solving policing to identify and address a community issue. Problem-solving policing examines the underlying causes of incidents of crime and disorder. Problem-solving policing goes beyond incident-driven policing, where police respond to each call as separate and un-related issues. Problem-solving policing recognizes that each community has their own needs, problems, and resources. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to problem-solving.
For your paper, you must select a community issue, such as:
Gun violence
Residential or commercial burglaries
Hate crimes
Domestic Violence
Drug use/overdose
Mental Illness
Other community issue
Research a problem-solving police initiative that addressed your community issue and explain how the program used the SARA model to scan, analyze, respond, and assess the community issue and response. Your paper should also include:
Describe how the program scanned the nature of the problem using the CHEERS acronym
Describe the technology that was used to identify (SCAN) and address (RESPOND) the problem.
The Research Paper must include a cover page, a minimum of four full double-spaced pages, and a references page. All data and quotes must be properly cited per APA format. You must use a minimum of three sources. The textbook may be used as a source; Wikipedia may not.
