o Third person means that we can’t use first-person pronouns like I, me, we, us,
etc. or second-person pronouns you, your, etc.
Instead of writing, I am interested in a nursing degree, for example, you would
need to write, A student interested in a nursing degree needs to . . . One will take
courses such as . . . Or, you could write in the plural: Students interested in
nursing degrees need to . . . They will take courses such as . . .
Criteria for Success
Your final draft should be between 500 and 800 words (approximately 2-3 pages) and a
minimum of 5 paragraphs. It should be typed in Times New Roman and double-spaced with
12-point font (or other acceptable font/size) and all sources (1 minimum) appropriately cited
and documented using MLA formatting. I will not accept papers that are not in MLA format.
This is our first paper requiring research and documentation, so keep in mind documentation
and acknowledgement are important components of this assignment. Failure to submit a
Work(s) Cited page with your final draft will automatically earn an “F.” Failure to include
in-text citations will also earn a failing grade.
Works Cited page disclaimer: If WCP is merely a list of URLs, the WCP will not be
accepted, and the paper will earn an automatic “F” as if the assignment did not have a
WCP submitted. URLs are not an acceptable form of MLA documentation.
Since development of ideas is also important, you will need to reach the minimum word count
or page length requirement. If this requirement is not met, the total grade for the paper will be
dropped by a letter. Keep in mind that word count does not include the heading information on
the first page or the entire Work(s) Cited page–Just the essay itself, from introductory
paragraph to the conclusion. Papers that include long quotes will always be graded based on
word count as opposed to page length.
