The final essay assignment aims to:
make the student apply acquired knowledge within physical geography achieved during the
course
increase the student’s understanding and knowledge of geological processes, events and
phenomena at a greater depth
give the student an enhanced understanding of the importance of the geosciences in society
give the student practice in regard of searching for material, conducting own research and
developing skills in regard of the process of academic writing

Make sure that you identify a scope of study (a sub-topic) as these research-areas are wide and too rich to have as a general scope for your essay. Remember that defining the limits of your work benefits the focus of your study; the more focused your topic is, the more likely you are to arrive at interesting discussions and conclusions. Think of the limitations in terms of being theoretical , methodological , temporal and spatial when formulating your research scope and research question/s.
Also remember that this is the final essay of a course in physical geography. This means that you might (and if appropriate are encouraged to) include anthropogenic and societal dimensions depending on the topic, but that the emphasis should be on natural science in general and physical geography specifically.
