THE ROLE OF INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP ON ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE IN PRE-TERTIARY SCHOOLS

Module 1: Introduction to the Literature Review
Goal
Create an Introduction to the Literature Review.

Learning Outcome

Content Requirements
Identify and describe the overall topic to be investigated.
Outline the approach taken for the literature review.
Discuss how the problem has evolved historically into its current form. And, argue the evolution of the problem based on the “gap” or “need” defined in the literature from its origination to its current form.
Provide an orienting paragraph so the reader knows what the literature review will address.
Describe how the chapter will be organized (including the specific sections and subsections).
Describe how the literature was surveyed so the reader can evaluate the thoroughness of the review. This includes search terms and databases used.
Module 2: Theoretical Framework
Goal
Create a Theoretical Framework.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this module, students will be able to:
Articulate the orientation of their proposed dissertation clearly.
Engage in independent analysis and evaluation of the research content and concepts.
Write the Theoretical Framework section of Chapter 2.

Content Requirements
Identify and describe the main theory that gives rise to your studythat is, the theoretical framework within which you will pursue your study. More specifically:
Provide a brief description of the relevant theory (or theories) to be utilized in approaching the problem.
Identify who is credited with the creation of the original theory (including notable people who modified or expanded on the theory).
Describe the theory (or variation thereof) upon which your study is based and referenced.
Provide a historical context within which this theory was developed.
Outline the major variables or concepts and their interrelationships derived from the existing theoretical work.
Describe a connection between these theoretical constructions and your research questions or hypotheses.
Describe the theory as a heuristic device to examine and interpret qualitative data.
Include other researchers or theorists in the field who have conducted research in that area of interest.
Additionally, it is important that you:
Explain how the theory and related concepts are important to the topic of your research paper and how they relate to the broader areas of knowledge being pursued.
Describe how it will inform your topic and shape the subsequent research.
Defend the choice and appropriateness of the theory chosen.
Identify, if any, changes you are making to the theory in your use of it.
List the limitations of the theoretical framework you have chosen (in a later assignment, you will describe these limitations in more detail).
