Everyday Grocery is a low-cost national supermarket chain, selling fresh produces such as vegetables, fruits, meat, dairy products, seafood, and ready meals. They are aware of recent consumer interest in eating more sustainably and policy debate around taxes on food products with high carbon footprints. They are uncertain about the implications of such carbon taxes on their market prospects. They ask you, a marketing consultant, to provide advice in the following areas:
1. What products are most likely to be taxed?
2. How would the proposed carbon taxes affect the food choices of their customers?
3. In light of 1 and 2, and the growing demand for sustainable food products, what changes should the company make to their product portfolio to meet their customer demand (e.g. introducing new products, adjusting product prices, sourcing existing products from other suppliers etc.)?
