This chapter focuses on suburban growth after WWII in the United States. It focuses on some of reasons why there was such a demand for suburban housing. One of the YouTube clips looks at Levittown, a well-known suburb often discussed in history books (note my comments under that clip).
For this assignment, answer the following questions:
What caused the growth of the 19th century (late 1800s) suburbs? How where they different from the suburbs that developed after WWII?
Why did the suburbs grow so rapidly after WWII? What were the factors that contributed to the growth of the suburbs?
