The Wild Wild West

The Wild Wild West
With America growing rapidly, more and more remarkable series of technological innovations have spurred rapid communication and economic growth. By the 1890s, five transcontinental lines transported the products of western mines, farms, ranches, and forests to eastern markets and carried manufactured goods to the West. I set out West to find out more answers myself and to find out what this mysterious part of the US is really about. As I head through the west, there lay millions of acres of fertile and mineral-rich land roamed by giant herds of buffalo. Those to whom meat and hides provided food, clothing, and shelter for a population of more than 250,000 Indians. As I see these natives roaming the fields and in the forest, replete with horses and teepee housing which provide room for survival. They seem very in tune with nature and stand very confident in what they do. It provides me with several questions: are they heading west, like myself? How long have they been here for? How do they view life? What do they know?
The further I head out west, the more I see how America has such a huge diverse landscape ranging from beauty of the Great Plains, the Rocky Mountains, to the desert of the Southwest, the Sierra Nevada, and the valleys and coastline of California and the Pacific Northwest. I wonder to myself how such a beautiful life was created and how does one even begin to explore it. As I now ride and travel with cowboys, all wanting to be something in life, they travel with lasos and gear, stocked up for what lies ahead out in the wild west: The great farming empire of the corporate west. From bonanza farms, to the massive cattle industry, the west is filled with a vast amount of farming from crops to even animals which, all in the end, provide for America’s rapid growing nation.
Before I took off for this crazy but amazing adventure I heard rumors of the west being a wild mix of people: natives, cowboys, and even Chinese, who I see on the trains. I have even seen these strange-looking people coming from the far-away world who want to live here in the states. I believe that everyone who comes west is seeking that same unknown opportunity, for commonwealth and prosperity. The west provides a vast amount of labor work such as work in western gold fields, railroad construction, and factories which is attracting these Chinese and hispanic workers from all over. These immigrants are looking for a better life for their families which is providing them hope and prosperity.
In the End, I truly believe that the West is not what a lot of Americans from the East Coast imagined it to be. From the rapid growth and development of the west to the region’s natural resources and its people. As I explored the west, I was struck by how much of the land has been used by the natives. And the more I look out west, the more I realize how diverse America’s landscape is. From the Rocky Mountains to the Sierra Nevada, from the Great Plains to the Pacific Northwest, there is something for everyone. Overall, I believe that everyone is looking for the same opportunity and prosperity in the west.
