Note: The video above have been added simply to give you a feel for Svalbard – you will need to research more about it, including its location, on your own.
You are an arctic explorer/researcher just beginning your career and have found yourself stuck in Svalbard for the winter – the last plane of the season has left already and the seasonal sea ice is too thick to allow ships to navigate safely in or out. The one and only restaurant in Longyearbyen has become your momentary sanctuary, and, surprisingly, a nice place for dinner. The restaurant has also proven to be a very friendly place, as four separate individuals have invited you to bear the winter with them. The first person to approach you was a reindeer hunter; the second person, a NASA scientist; the third person, a coal miner; and the fourth person an employee at the Global Seed Vault. Winter is long and cold and your aim is to be as comfortable as possible (for the next 3 months). You accept the invitation of one of the four individuals. Describe the individual you have chosen and explain why you have chosen them over the others? What are a few of the things you feel you are going to learn from this particular individual?
