Short Story Essay
Choose one of the following essay prompts below regarding one of the short stories covered in this unit and develop a 1000-1200 word formal academic essay in which you examine some aspect of the selected story. For this essay you must include:
An outline complete with a working thesis idea
A fully developed first draft of your essay that is complete with introduction, fully developed supporting paragraphs including direct quotations from the story for support, and a concluding paragraph
Your essay should conform to expected standards for a formal academic essays
ESSAY FOCUS:
Choose one of the stories covered in class and develop a formal essay where you define the story’s THEME.
Thesis example:
“The author develops “SHORT STORY” to demonstrate the theme that….[insert the story’s theme].”
Prove the defined theme with three to four supporting arguments that help the reader understand the message intended from the reading of the story.
You may also develop your own thesis. You can focus your thesis on some other aspect of the story (i.e.: setting, character development, symbolism, narration, etc.). Please be sure to present your ideas in an outline so as to receive appropriate feedback on your idea prior to going ahead with your writing.
