Consider the story of Joseph and how the dynamics of his family led his brothers to plot to do away with him (Genesis 37:1-36) to compare and contrast that story with the theory.
You might instead consider the family system of the first family of Creation, including Adam, Eve, their children Cain and Abel and their descendants (also in Genesis); or the family of Abraham, his descendants, or any other scriptures you identify to inform your reflection.
The Bible also contains stories of family drama and dysfunction but all to illustrate salvation through God’s grace and redemptive mercy. Read about how Joseph’s faith in God brought him out of the pit and into prominence when he finally met with and showed mercy to his own brothers who had left him for dead in a pit so many years before (Genesis 42, 43).
Reflect on the power of gratitude in granting forgiveness and mercy to others who might not be deserving of either.
