Referencing from the textbook and personality brief to support your answers is expected. Use quotes ” ” and provide a section/paragraph number when quoting directly from the e-book and a page number when quoting directly from the personality brief (otherwise it is plagarism). Note: your essay should not be a list of quotes but attempt to put ideas into your own words by paraphrasing.
If you quote from e-book you need to provide the correct in-text citation:

If you quote from the Personality Brief by Cengage you also need to provide a correct in-text citation.
Example 2. The personality briefs notes that “that William is obsessive with cleanliness” (Cengage, 2012, p. 2).
Level of Development & Word Count: Note: the expected level of development and points allocated to each case question varies (see below). Include a word count at the end of your answer to each case question and highlight key words that answer the question posted. Please note that there is minimum level of development expected. I encourage you to go beyound the minimum given essays that are further developed tend to reflect greater level integration and analysis. However, being repetative and redundant just to get beyound the minimum word count expected, will not earn a higher grade.
Quality of Writing: You will also be graded on quality of written expression. It is expected that this essay will be proof-read for grammatical errors, sentence structure and clarity of expression. Pay close attention to intext citation with paraphrasing or quoting from the Personality Brief and the textbook.

Questions to be answered:
Question 1 (30 points): If you were Freud, at what stage of psychosexual development would he
say John is fixated in? What specific personality type associated with this stage of development does
John exhibit most clearly? What would Freud say is the reason for John’s fixation at this stage?
Provide evidence from the case to support your answer for each of the above questions. Make sure
to support your analysis with the textbook.
– This critical thinking question has several parts. Make sure to answer all parts of question presented.Your narrative should be at least 200 words. This is the minimum level of development that I
would deem a passing C level grade. Include a word count and highlight/underline key words that
answer the question posed.

• Question 2 (15 points each): The brief provides an illustration of the defense mechanism of
regression in John’s behavior. Explain why indeed this is the case.
– Make sure to answer the questions with a substantive response supporting your perspective (a
paragraph of 150 words minimum is expected). Include a word count and highlight/underline key
words that answer the question posed.

• Question 3 (15 points each): The brief also provides illustrations of several other defense
mechanisms (other than regression) used by John. Identify one other such defense mechanism and
provide evidence from the personality brief that illustrates this.
– Make sure to answer the questions with a substantive response supporting your perspective (a
paragraph of 150 words minimum is expected). Include a word count and highlight/underline key
words that answer the question posed.

• Question 4 (25 points): Freud was a pioneer in the treatment of psychological disfunction. If John
were Freud’s patient which therapeutic techniques (discuss two) would he use as part of his
treatment plan? Which level of consciousness would be the focus of therapy and why? When would
Freud know that healing has taken place?
– Make sure to answer all parts of the question with a substantive response supporting your
perspective. A minimum of a 200 word response is expected. Include a word count
and highlight/underline key words that answer the question posed.
