Make connections between the characters in each play and leaders of political movements who struggled to
belong and achieve some type of power over societal and cultural oppression.

Start with your one political movement (listed above) and do thorough research. Think of and write about who started your movement, why was it started, was anyone against this movement? Why? Was
the movement ultimately successful, and is this movement still going on – in what way? You will need
a minimum of 2 outside sources (You may use more than two sources, but no more than four sources
for then entire essay). You will also need to use quotes from your outside sources.

Then start to compare what is similar (characters, plot, actions, intentions) between your chosen
movement and your chosen reading. What will make this assignment easier is to pick a movement that
matches the overall theme of a reading the best (for instance, if you want to research/analyze the Black
Panther movement, which reading would best match the overall theme or intention of that particular
movement?)
