Overview
As you learned from the reading assignment of Appendix 1 of the LOSA Advisory Circular 120-90
Actions
, the “TEM model is a conceptual framework for understanding operational performance in complex environments” (2006, p. 1). In this assignment you will expand your knowledge of the TEM framework by providing examples of threats, errors, and undesired aircraft states and argue for or against the FAA TEM framework.
Using the TEM model framework, determine ten threats, ten errors that could be linked to the threats, and ten undesired aircraft states as a result of the errors. Also provide your thoughts on whether the TEM model is linear. In Appendix 1 of the LOSA Advisory Circular 120-90, the framework definitions suggest that “mismanaged threat..is linked to or induces flight error” and that a “mismanaged error…is linked to or induces additional error or an undesired aircraft state” (2006, pp. 1-2). Do you agree or disagree with the FAA’s TEM linear framework assumption? For example, do you need a threat, before an error, before an undesired aircraft state? You will be issued credit for the assignment if you:
Complete the assignment by the due date
Provide ten proper examples of threats in the aviation environment
Provide ten proper examples of errors in the aviation environment that can be directly linked to the ten threats
Provide ten proper examples of undesired aircraft states in the aviation environment that can be directly linked to the ten errors or threats
Succinctly justify a position on the FAA’s TEM linear framework assumption
Adequately address all parts of the assignment
Written paper contains no significant spelling or grammatical errors
This is a graded assignment with 75 points possible.
