To what extent and why PMC Wagner group has been involved in international crimes in Syria, Wagner from the perspective of ‘state corporate crime’.

For the final paper, students are to choose their own topic and phrase their own research question.
Please note however, students cannot choose the same country/situation as the one they discuss in their
presentation! Typically, ideas for research questions stem from literature discussed in the lectures or
tutorials. The paper should contain the following elements:
▪ Select a country/situation from the following list: Argentina, Central African Republic, Cambodia,
Chad, China, Colombia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Guinea,
Guinea Bissau, Iraq, Iran, Ivory Coast, Libya, Mali, Myanmar, Mozambique, Niger, North Korea,
Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Sudan, South Sudan, Syria, Uganda, Ukraine, Yemen, former
Yugoslavia;
▪ Develop a research question focusing on either:
o causes of conflict-related crimes committed within the selected country; or
o effects of these crimes; or (when focusing on international crimes)
o the transitional justice process in the aftermath of these crimes.
▪ Answer the research question by using academic literature.

The research paper consists a maximum of 5.000 words (including footnotes and in-text references,
excluding the list of references at the end). On Canvas a ‘Handbook’ on how to write a research paper will
be posted. Paper writing will also be the subject of two methods and skills sessions.
