To what extent has lacking federal internet regulation and outdated structures within antitrust institutions empowered Big Tech to disregard antitrust and consumer protection practices?

I am writing a thesis on how the duopolisation of social media (Google and Facebook) has been enabled by: lacking social media and privacy regulation, as well as by the Federal Trade Commission(FTC), who literally greenlighted major mergers/consolidations of social media sites that are in an obvious conflict of interest with competition law.
My argument is that the FTC, whose purpose and 2 goals are to maintain a healthy competition economy as well as ensure consumer safety, have forgone that mission and allowed these companies to become the duopolies they are today, while sacrificing consumer safety altogether. This will be done with a focus on Facebook and a critical analysis on 3 case studies: Cambridge Analytica, The de-platforming of Donald Trump, and the Lack of action on MLM’s that plague social media sites.

its really important that this thesis focus on consumer protection.

I need help writing literature for this thesis, my masters is in North American studies with a focus in history

So i was hoping the structure could look something like this:
-A brief history for antitrust in the US/Beginnings of the FTC/ Development of the FTC structure and culture (its economic focused beginnings later followed by its establishment through working with the executive branch, followed by the introduction of consumer safety/protection within the FTC)
-The topic/discussion of Antitrust in our modern economy- and the application of consumer protection
-Big tech as a duopoly/ discussions of big tech and antitrust
-Social media and consumer protection (the growing discussion on the dangers of social media in regards to privacy, health, malpractice etc)
