To what extent the audiences and capitals control the formation of visual art?

For this essay, you will represent an essay about photography, and then raise a question about that writer’s thinking. You will then introduce a photograph of your own choosing in order to explore the question. Through your interpretation of the photograph and exploration of its context as well as additional research, you will create a larger idea about how images work. Your ending should revisit the essay and the photograph in light of what you’ve discovered in your sources.

Sources: You must include representations and analysis regarding one source in each of the following categories–
A conceptual essay–A complex idea based essay that you can use as a lens to consider your image through, as assigned (from: “Understanding a Photograph” by John Berger, “Getting Others Right” by Teju Cole, and
“Regarding the Pain of Others” by Susan Sontag). (1-2)
Photograph–Use a photograph and any accompanying text to address your inquiry (1)
Additional contextual research–Seek out additional sources–to help you understand the photograph, or the first essay, or anything connected you find useful. This might be another photograph or news story (which might be in your native language) or perhaps an eyewitness account or personal experience (1-2)
