Summarize briefly the facts and the decision of the court. I am looking especially for you to deal with and discuss the issues raised under the headings “Critical Thinking” and “Ethical Decision Making” at the end of the case summary together with whatever other thoughts the case raises for you.
As you may have seen from your reading in other instances, the text presents this case as a “legal brief”–that is, an outline or summary of the case. I think you will find that it is a lot easier than reading the judge’s opinion verbatim as you did in last week. The point of a “brief” is to boil it all down, so to speak. One major job of a lawyer is to analyze judicial opinions and get to the heart of the issue and reasoning employed. Every case has a facts, reasoning, a rule and a result in addition to contrasting arguments or points of view presented.
