ASSIGNMENT 1
Tourism Report: Hotel Operations Cont.
Let’s continue on writing your tourism report. You have already started your hotel section in the last lesson by writing about the hotel you visited. Now you will add to it by researching details about accommodations in the specific area you have chosen to write your tourism report on.
Instructions:
If you need another copy of the report template you can download Tourism Report Template.
You will complete the rest of the Accommodations section of the report template, writing for the following sections:
Before you begin writing this section, review the feedback you were given on your previous sections of the report. Use that feedback to supplement your work in the rest of the activities below.
Provide 50-100 words describing the type of accommodations where travelers in your area usually stay. Consider: If they come for business does it make a difference where they stay? If they come to visit a specific attraction does it make a difference where they stay. (This short paragraph should have different/additional information than what you provided in Part I Accommodations assignment)
Create a table like the following to describe 3 properties you researched. Include:
Name of the accommodation
The category of the accommodation
Approximate cost per night of stay
Amenities/services to attract guests
The audience the property tries to accommodate
The number of stars for the property (usually reported as 1-4).
Example
Name Category Cost Amenities Audience Stars
Accommodation name Resort/mid-range/ economy/ etc Cost per night What kinds of services would attract guests? Who does this accommodation appeal to? Usually reported as 1-4
After you complete these sections of the report template, submit your document.
Research tips:
Google the name of the area with the word tourism after it: “Soda Springs Idaho tourism”
Websites such as Tripadvisor (Links to an external site.), Expedia (Links to an external site.), or Travelocity (Links to an external site.) may help you find out about places to stay in your area, and then you can go to the website of the specific hotel to find more information.
ASSIGNMENT 2
L06 Tourism Report: Food & Beverage
Now you will spend some time continuing on with your tourism report. This section will only be half of the information you include about the food and beverage sector. The other half will be completed next week in lesson 7.
To research food & beverage options in your area, you might try starting with an Internet search using the words, “food and beverage,” and add the name of the destination you are researching. Sites like Tripadvisor (Links to an external site.) may have a restaurant tab where you can enter the area you are researching and find different categories of dining options. After identifying specific restaurants that are available, you could go to the website of the restaurant if you need additional information.
