Transformation task

This text production task will involve taking a text studied in class, OR A TEXT OF YOUR CHOICE and transforming it into another genre; the significant alteration to create a completely new text, may involve converting or updating a text to reflect a new social or cultural context. The aim of the task is for you to demonstrate that you have a thorough and complex understanding of the ways in which the form and conventions of a text are significant in the making of meaning both for the original and transformed texts.

The best way to think about a transformational task is that the core 4 or 5 ideas from the initial text are still evident in the transformed text. An example of this is the transformation of Hamlet to The Lion King; although different texts, the essence of key elements both in plot development and ideas are somewhat similar. By transforming a text, it is not quite the same as the original and subsequently the meaning is inevitably altered (if only slightly) due to the genre chosen for the transformation and the idea being developed e.g. Juno into narrative, monologue, drama script etc. or a poem studied into a recount, advertisement, speech etc.

You are required to present two products for assessment purposes:
Part 1: Transformation text: a text studied in class or chosen independently is transformed into another genre. This task demonstrates that you have been able to transform and adapt the initial text in order to create an altered meaning.

monologue
cartoon strip
narrative
webpage
short film
drama script
slam poem
trailer
song lyric
product
advertisement
recount
screenplay
speech
animation
graphic novel
podcast
blog
poem
or….

Part 2: Writer’s statement: it is here that you articulate an awareness of the literary conventions of your chosen text type to support your interpretation. You need to detail why you have chosen the new text type and how the crafting of your new text and its stylistic features make an impact on your intended audience and the intended meaning.

Your writers statement should be 600 words describing the piece youve written and the significance of it etc.
so 900 words for the actual piece. 600 for the writers statement.

Please note, you must go very in depth with you responce for the writers statement, it must make a substantial impact on the audience. Its all about the idea of why you did what you did, why you chose that genre, why you did it the way you did and any literary techniques you utilised within etc.
