Transformative Learning

In this discussion you will describe a short plan for lifelong learning and self-awareness. If you can share it professionally, you can describe a
culture you might want to learn more about.

**Understanding it does not mean you will become ore accept it, you are just understanding this culture a bit more. Any post that is not
constructive will receive zero points.

How can you build continue lifelong learning habits to follow you after this class is over?
This plan can include events, travel, research, new friends or groups of people, etc.
You will need to include specific steps for the most possible points.
Include a culture you might want learn about, if it is professional and appropriate (optional).
Share any additional information you would like that furthers understanding and class discussion.
Finally, this is optional, discuss the researcher’s take on education and the ‘War on Boys.’ Before responding, remember, this is a class that asks us to step outside ourselves to learn about another person’s journey or experience. Be open-minded and discuss things from a social science perspective and offer thought and understanding in your answer. If you are shocked or offended by this as new information, you might ask yourself why that is? Wouldn’t you want to validate and understand another culture, especially a child? Take a moment before responding and think how you might help a boy in your classroom who is having this negative experience.

Check out this researcher’s information about how there needs to be more critical thinking about how we see boys in school. Are we
stereotyping boys and how they learn and grow? Dr. Christine Hoff Sommers argues that boys are being left behind in many areas. I raised a
boy and did experience this for much of his K – 12 experience.

What I find really interesting and a bit disturbing is that she has received death threats from feminists and has been banned from some
speaking engagements some are at universities. This is not critical thinking.
