Trauma memories

This assignment will have 2 parts:
1 – Reviewing a peer’s essay and giving feedback
2 – Responding to the peer feedback you receive
For Part 1: Reviewing a Peer’s Essay and Giving Feedback
I will be sharing one of your peers’ first draft of Essay 2 with you! Once you receive that document, you will do a few things.
Read their essay carefully. Make notes on your own, and consider their central argument.
You do not need to add any comments or edits on the document itself.
Write an email to the author of the essay you are reviewing. CC me on the email. This email will be where your grade comes from. Your email should do the following things:
Say hello! We don’t always get to interact as much as I’d like in a remote class, but this is a chance to get to know one another briefly!
Compliment something about the paper that you found effective. Be specific and give an example. You could mention things like the author using striking diction with an example of some wording you liked. You could point out meticulous APA formatting or a particularly smart point. Open by observing something effective about the essay.
Identify and evaluate the author’s thesis statement.
Quote the thesis statement from the essay you reviewed.
If you are not sure where the thesis statement is, explain that, and explain why. A strong academic essay has a clear, easy to locate thesis statement.
If you think it may potentially be 2 or 3 different lines, include all of them.
Does the thesis make an observation about the nature of the conversation around trauma theory?
If you’d like to make a recommendation or suggest a change to the thesis statement, either the statement itself or the location, now is the time to do so.
Identify the organizing idea the author used to group their sources. What are the 2-3 main groups this author used to organize their sources? Do those two groups support the thesis claim? Perhaps are the groups unclear and in need of clearer explanation?
Evaluate the author’s organization of their source groups. Are you easily able to follow how the sources relate to one another both inside and outside of the organizing groups the author has created? Does the author have the sources interact with one another?
Summarize the area of additional needed research that the author has identified in your own words. This will probably be located near the end of the essay. Do you agree that this is an interesting and/or needed area of research? Has that area already been covered? Is it irrelevant for some reason the author hasn’t really considered?
Comment on the general readability of the essay. Did the grammar and paragraph formatting flow nicely, making it easy to follow transitions? Was the wording perhaps a bit complicated or difficult to follow in a few places? Were there sentences you weren’t sure you understood?
Once you’ve composed this email, send it to the author of the essay you reviewed and myself.
For Part 2: Responding to the Peer Feedback You Receive
Once you receive your email from a peer who has read and evaluated your essay, you will need to:
Carefully read their email, noting any confusion or questions your essay created in your peer reviewed.
Review the first draft of your essay, referencing the quotes or points that your reviewer mentions in their email.
Consider specifically their comments on your thesis statement. Do you need to clarify or adjust it?
Consider specifically your organizational groups for your sources. Are they clear?
Consider the reviewer’s feedback on the area of research you have identified. Did they point out something you hadn’t considered?
Respond to your reviewer with the following items:
Say thanks! It’s always helpful when someone takes the time to review our work.
Ask any clarifying questions. Did anything the reviewer say cause confusion or appear to be unclear to you? Do you need them to rephrase their point so that you can understand them better?
Summarize at least 2 specific changes you will make in your final draft in response to their feedback. Without going into too much detail, explain 2 areas you will focus on in your final draft edits.
