Writing Portfolio Part Two (O) Deadline: February 17 (8 pm Ottawa time)
Purpose: To practice your skill in writing a well-structured paragraph in which present your opinion clearlyon an assigned topic. This is a task which is similar to one you would do when writing a short answer question on an exam in subject-matter courses (i.e., psychology).
Task:
Step 1 Read the following two articles. Below are the links to the articles online. There are also pdf copies of these articles posted in Brightspace.

Step 2 Write opinion paragraphs about the two articles you have chosen. This means that you will be writing one paragraph about one article and one paragraph about the second article. Write between 250 and 300 words for each paragraph.
What do you include in your paragraphs?
You are writing about your point of view on the topic; do not discuss whether you think the article is well written. This is not a critique of the author or the format of the article. For this assignment, you are not writing a summary paragraph.
In following the structure of a well-formed paragraph, the topic sentence you write gives the main idea of the paragraph (i.e., your overall opinion). The next sentences relate to the topic sentence by providing support for your opinion with details from the article; you may wish to include details from other articles. Be sure to include ideas and details which support your opinion. You may find that a sentence may be needed to summarize in general terms the content of the article is needed.
Please note that when you use ideas from any article, you must provide a reference for the article and author. For this, you need to include ‘in text’ citations. This means that when you include the idea(s) from someone else in your own words, you indicate who the author is immediately after the sentence where the idea appears.
Example:
Indeed, there are many perspectives on how a newcomer might be treated in Canada. McHayle indicates that there are many ways to understand Canadian views towards newcomers (McHayle, 2021).
For ‘in test’ citations, you need to include a reference list at the end of your document in which has the complete bibliographic reference for the McHayle 2021 article. Please use the format you use most in your field of study (i.e., MLA, APA, Chicago).
Evaluation:
Each paragraph needs to be well-structured. Each paragraph will be evaluated for the follow:
· Content – reference to article; opinion; relevant supporting ideas.
· Structure of paragraph – (topic sentence, coherence/cohesive devices, concluding sentence).
· Accuracy of grammar, including punctuation and complete sentences.
· Use of own phrasing and accurate use of relevant vocabulary for the topic. A rubric will be posted for this assignment.

Submit your two paragraphs in Word files, not pdf files. With a Word document, feedback and edits can be inserted to guide you in your writing. Use Times Roman, 12pt.
