Understanding Memory through Science

Problem: The media often reports about different aspects of human memory, whether it be related to effects of current events or cultural norms on memory, or effects of aging and how we understand them. It can be difficult to determine which “professional” advice is worth following, especially when we are told contradictory statements (practicing cognitive tasks (‘brain training’) will make you smarter; vs. intelligence (and other largely heritable traits like height) does not really change much over a lifespan).
Task: Find a news article (not an advertisement) published in the past 5 years related to some aspect of memory. Pick an article that supports the solution being offered by referencing a scientific study or body of research. Then find at least three to five additional peer-reviewed research articles about the topic and write a brief critique of the news article.
