In this Unit, you will learn how our tissues and organs work together to form organ systems and learn details of how the nervous, endocrine, skeletal and muscular systems function (and their structure). Using this information and the information from the introductory material folder, write an essay discussing this disease and its effects on a person. You should include information on tissues (especially nervous) and each of the systems relevant to this unit. An autoimmune disease is one where our immune system attacks our own tissues as though they were foreign and destroys them. We will discuss the workings of the immune system in Unit 4 and so you do not need to include that discussion for this assignment. Things that you might discuss can include how the disease affects the nervous system and how that in turn affects the ability to move. You might consider the long-term progression of the disease and symptoms that may come and go. There are many things that you could consider but keep your discussion factual and relevant to the unit.
