For this assignment, you are going to focus on mental health and substance abuse to create a presentation for an agency
within courts, corrections, or law enforcement. You may use a job you currently work at or one that you hope to eventually
work at.
You can use pictures (be sure to cite where they are from underneath them), videos, links, and any other technology
resources that help you make the best presentation. Remember, you need to make them visually appealing. Do not just
have paragraphs on each slide. Rather, work on charts, lists, and other ways to display your information. Think of what you
would want to see if someone was presenting to you!
This PowerPoint must be 12 slides total.
1: Title Slide
Slide 2-4: Explain current data related to mental health and substance abuse. Present the problem in which criminal
justice is facing related to both mental illness and substance abuse in numbers. Arrest data and typical substances used
should be part of this slide.
Slide 5-6: How does substance abuse impact your agency? Explain why this important.
Slide 7-8: Discuss co-occurring data related to mental health and substance abuse.
Slide 9: Explain what stigma is, and give examples that relate to your agency.
Slide 10: Explain how stigma impacts the treatment of offenders.
Slide 11: Create a slide of resources for your peers about the information you presented above. Think what would be
useful to you related to this topic.
Slide 12: APA References
You may add in personal thoughts and work experience where applicable, but be sure that you also draw from scholarly
resources and your textbook.
You must use your textbook as a resource for this assignment. In addition to your textbook, you must also find at least two
academic sources. Be sure to include a title slide and a reference slide. Please adhere to APA style when creating citations
and references for this assignment.
