US Federal Legislation Research : Affordable Care Act

Upload Assignment: US Federal Legislation Research
US Legislation Research Paper (200 points) : During the very hectic learning filled weeks we explored how a Bill becomes a law in the US. Let us apply what we have studied to the real world of US Federal Government! Please identify one recent Bill (that was either passed, vetoed or maybe unsuccessfully introduced in the US Legislature) that became law in the US and describe its path in the US Make sure you turn your essay in PDF or word format. It should include a citation page (The number of pages you have to write will depend on which Legislation you choose. As an approximation you should have at least 4-5 pages, excluding the citation page), 12 inch font and double spaced and should address the subheadings below. Make sure your Safe assign match score is no more than 50%.
Be sure to CLEARLY IDENTIFY the BILL that you are going to write about. Be SURE TO INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING SUBHEADINGS:
1) The Law Identified: Make sure you introduce the broad issue area your chosen Bill falls under. Be sure to give a little background information about how the Bill was conceived. Which Public Policy Problem was the Bill designed to solve? Was the legislation driven by interest groups? By grassroots campaigns? Go back to the chapter on Public policy Cycle to bring in points about agenda setting etc.
2) Description of the Bill: Be sure to write about what was in the Bill! What were the major features of the Bill. Details are needed! Read the Bill you choose!
3) The Bill’s Journey through the US Legislature: Who introduced it! Who voted for it! Which interests groups came out for it and against it? Who testified for it or against it? Or Did it sadly just die and no one cared about it? Did the President Veto it! All of that needs to be here!
4) Assessment of the Bill: Conclusion needs to include empirical or normative evaluations of the Bill(Familiar terms eh?) Hint! Public Policy Cycle!!!!!
Google of course is a good place to start. Google Scholar is even better. Make sure you pay attention to the quality of the website (Not everything on the internet is true!). Also you should be able to find a lot of basic information on the website of your chosen interest group!
