Write an essay base on my orginial work.
I saw this smoking advertisement posted on Twitter by the anti-smoking campaign of TheTruth.com. And the purpose of the persuasive statement is to persuade people to stop smoking by educating them about the dangers of smoking. The person laying there is definitely dead and instead of the morgue tag they use to identify cadavers, it’s a tag that says “Smoking kills”. “Smoking kills” is a simple statement that sends a powerful message to everyone, telling them in two strong words that if they continue to smoke, they will die. Also, the design of the tag is similar to the design of a box of Marlboro Cigarettes, a popular brand of cigarettes in the United States. To be honest, I see a lot of people using this brand around me, and I’ve noticed that men prefer the red box of Marlboro Cigarettes while women prefer the yellow box.
Pathos is a persuasive strategy that uses emotions to persuade an audience. The senses, memory, and shared experience are all used in pathos advertising strategies. The phrase “Smoking Skills” implies a special appeal to emotion or pathos, in which the audience’s heartstrings are tugged, causing them to feel guilty and fearful. Because people are generally afraid of death, it relies on fear to get people to stop smoking/warmed non-smokers start to smoke. This clearly indicates that the person died as a result of smoking, which is the worst outcome possible for someone who continues to smoke. People think of a dead person on the ground as a symbol, and it symbolizes that smoking is like poison, and that significant aspects of their lives can be adversely affected by cigarette smoking.
Logos is a persuasive strategy that uses logic and reason to persuade an audience. Logos examples in advertising include the citing of statistics, facts, charts, and graphs, also known as “the logical appeal. Moreover, this advertisement is not only emotional/ pathos but also appeals to logic/ logos. As shown in the advertisement’s picture, it also includes factual information such as the following: Approximately 440000 Americans die each year from diseases related to smoking. 90% of them started as teen smokers. It gives a fact in this advertisement that I really like about how many people die from smoking, and if the audience sees a dead body and learns that thousands of people die from smoking, they will be scared and either not try smoking or stop it.
