O’Connor Synthesis Paper: Due before 11:00pm EST on Wednesday, April 19, 2023.
4-6 pages each (not including Works Cited page) 100 points
MLA Format
Flannery O’Connor wrote that “in my own stories I have found that violence is strangely capable of returning my characters to reality and preparing them to accept their moment of grace” and that violence “is the extreme situation that best reveals what we are essentially.”
Using “Good Country People” AND “A Good Man is Hard to Find” discuss how the female experience is presented; what it ‘essentially’ means to be a woman in these stories.
Explore the meanings of the word “good” and how “goodness,” “grace,” and “violence” are depicted to create meaning. What “moment(s) of grace” are the characters accepting?
Your thesis must be supported by textual evidence. Include evidence from one of the theorists we have read this semester as well (hooks, Robinson, Gilbert & Gubar).
See rubric on following page.
