Using LiDAR Data to Improve Situational Awareness While Reducing Operator Cognitive Load.

Attached below are the guidelines for the thesis, which is in the form of a Thesis Abstract.

In regards to my subject specifically my chair and I have come up with an outline as follows for my subject:

1) How does LiDAR data improve situational awareness.
2)Assessment of cognitive load of using LiDAR data (any existing frameworks to use?).
3)Propose new models/approaches or improvement of using LiDAR in human-machine
teaming.

The program I am in is Assitiive Technologies Engineering. So that is why there has to be a human-machine angle to this. My chair would also like me to include the NASA-TLX (Task Load Index) which falls under number 2 of the outline. My background is aerospace, drone, remote sensing and geospatial data so I was iniitially looking into this subject for UnmannedSurface Vehicles (USV) and situational awareness. My advisor does consulting for JPL
And there was a maritime project he had me look into. I was originally going to do this
Work for that project but due to time restraints and the complexity of it all we narrowed it
Down to a more general topic of Lidar and situational awareness. I would still like it to be
maritime or drone specific but it no longer has to be geared towards the JPL project.
